As with most surnames there are several Stancer lines in the
United States, some related to each other and some not. The
particular Stancer line that this site focuses on began with the
arrival in the U.S. of George Stancer (shown at the left), son
of John Stancer and Ann Buttery. He was born February 12, 1803 in Skellingthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. He arrived in the U.S. about 1830 and spent the remainder of his life in Fountain County, Indiana and Mercer County, Illinois where he lived, married, raised children, died and was buried in the Greenmound Cemetery, Keithsburg, Mercer County, Illinois. This site is dedicated to him and to his descendants. It is intended to be a living site, constantly growing and improving.
